Great Basin’s Outlaw Oatmeal Stout takes Silver at the 2012 World Beer Cup®

RENO, Nev. (May 17, 2012) – Great Basin Brewing Company brought home the silver medal in the Sweet Stout category for its Outlaw Oatmeal Stout at the World Beer Cup®, in an awards ceremony that took place in San Diego, California on May 5, 2012. This year, a record 799 breweries from 54 countries vied for the awards, with 3,921 beers entered in 95 beer style categories. Great Basin’s silver medal award is one of only 284 awarded by the Brewers Association that evaluates beers from around the world and recognizes the most outstanding brewers and their beers.

"The World Beer Cup is one of the most well-respected brewing competitions on earth,” said Bonda Young, owner of Great Basin Brewing Company. “For a local Nevada brewery to keep winning there is monumental. There’s nothing like bringing the silver home to the silver state."

World Beer Cup winners were selected by an international panel of 211 beer judges from 27 countries. The competition—referred to as the “Olympics of Beer Competition”—saw an impressive field of 3,921 entries from 799 breweries in 54 countries. The 2012 competition drew the largest, most international field of entrants in the history of the World Beer Cup.

Great Basin Brewing Company’s Outlaw Oatmeal Stout has won several industry awards for excellence throughout the years, including a silver medal from the World Beer Cup in 2008, and a silver medal from the Great American Beer Festival® in 2011. The world-renowned, award-winning brew will be celebrated at a special event at Great Basin Brewing Company – where the public is invited to judge for themselves:
