The People of Nevada Want More Beer
Great Basin Brewing Company Expands Production with New Facility
RENO, Nev. (June 26, 2012) – Thanks to northern Nevada’s unquenchable thirst, Great Basin Brewing Company, Nevada’s oldest operating brewery, is running out of beer! In an effort to meet increasing demand, Great Basin Brewing Company has acquired the old Buckbean Brewing Company facility, located at 1155 South Rock Blvd. in Reno. Securing both the space and the brewing equipment, Great Basin Brewing Company will produce their signature brews and develop new brews after some modifications and additions to enhance production.
Great Basin Brewing Company began bottling and distributing its flagship Ichthyosaur (A.K.A. “ICKY”) IPA in 2011, which has successfully moved off the shelves in northern Nevada and surrounding areas since its launch—growing in popularity to a point where the current brewing capacity cannot meet demand. Great Basin has other brews scheduled for bottling and distribution, but has lacked the brewing capacity to rollout an expanded product line.
"We’ve maxed out capacity at both of our Sparks and Reno brewing facilities,” said Tom Young, owner of Great Basin Brewing Company. “Acquiring this new space is a great opportunity at the right time. It will allow us to do what we do best: brew great, local, and exciting craft beer to satisfy the discerning palates of fine folks of northern Nevada and the surrounding areas. We believe award-winning, handcrafted brews made right here in northern Nevada, by Nevadans, are a great way to represent our state to the rest of the nation.”
Great Basin beer, distributed by Southern Wine and Spirits, is currently available at both Great Basin brewery-restaurant locations and at over 400 restaurants, bars and retail stores in northern Nevada.
The new brewing facility is expected to employ an additional 4-10 people and will begin product rollout by late summer or early fall, including bottling, and possibly canning, for local and regional distribution. Great Basin Brewing Company also plans to eventually upgrade the facility’s current 30-barrel system to a 60-barrel system. When the new brewery, known as Great Basin Brewing Co. Taps and Tanks, is fully operational, Great Basin plans to open the taproom for convenient access to fresh beer enjoyed right from the source.
