1/18/08 -- POLL RESULTS – THE GREAT NEVADA BEER CAUCUS
Obama
and Paul Maintain Early Lead
(SPARKS,
NV) -- Beer drinkers
will be heard in the upcoming Nevada Presidential Caucus one pint at a time
thanks to the Great Basin Brewing Company. The Sparks, NV restaurant and
brewing company is conducting the first Beer Caucus in anticipation of the
upcoming Nevada Caucus to determine whom real beer drinkers support for
president.
Early
results show Barack Obama with an overwhelming lead among Democrat hopheads and
Ron Paul pushing the right buttons for Republican pilsner lovers. Warming up to
tomorrows Nevada Caucus, an expected heavy turnout tonight of discerning beer
imbibers could disrupt these early lead figures.
While
usual voting rules demand that one vote is allowed per person, THE GREAT
NEVADA BEER CAUCUS polls are conducted where one vote is awarded for each
beer. Patrons are given a ballot with each beer served and asked to mark the
candidate of choice and drop it into the BEER CAUCUS poll ballot box. Votes are
counted daily and posted by day at the Victorian Square restaurant and as a
running total for the week. The newsletter on Great Basin’s website
(greatbasinbrewingco.com) is updated daily to check the progress of all the
candidates. The polling started on Monday and will continue through Saturday
when the final tally will be announced.
“Breweries and Pubs were primary gathering
places for political activity in the formative years of this great nation. The
tradition is as legitimate now as it was then,” said Great Basin Brewmaster Tom
Young.”
When
asked about the merit of allowing one vote per beer, co-owner Bonda Young
offered, “This a beer caucus! What could be fairer than that? Great Basin,
Nevada’s oldest operating brewery, makes beer in small batches the old way. We
value our patrons ability to select fine beers and trust their opinions
concerning who should be the leader of this great nation.”
Results
are displayed prominently near the front entrance of Great Basin Brewing
Company on Victorian Square in Sparks. So far, the split between votes for
Republicans and Democrats is about even. Results are posted as percentages of
each candidate’s votes for each party. Here is what’s happening:
